Five Non Mainstream Acts to see at Digital Dreams
Of course, Digital Dreams has grown into the type of festival that carries some big names and has expanded its audience members to people that only know the most famous songs from the most mainstream of names. And, there is nothing wrong with that - but the big acts shouldn't always overshadow some of the smaller names with a big sound.
Above & Beyond, Armin Van Buuren, Axwell, Ingrosso, Bassnectar and Knife & Party are amongst this year’s headliners at Digital Dreams and are all names that EDM and non-EDM fans alike recognize. Of course, who doesn’t want to see these performers? But there are a lot of other great artists performing at this festival over Canada Day weekend that are worth the listen.
This Australian hip hop EDM duo, made up of Angus Stuart and Luke Dubber, have been together for almost 15 years now. After releasing their album Dark Night Sweet Light last year, they have been busy touring overseas, while also releasing several singles. Their two latest ones, ‘Gimme’ and ‘Vibrations’ are unheard bangers that they have now been performing at live sets. Hermitude will be taking the Digital Dreams stage on Sunday, July 3rd.
Xiiam has only just started to scratch the surface of the house/electronic music world and began to make his mark last year with his hit remix of Matt Nash & AN21’s ‘Louder.’ Performing at Digital Dreams will be a local gig for this toronto DJ, but his biggest break yet. He will be opening the Digital Dreams mainstage on Saturday, July 2nd.
3. Hannah Wants
House music DJ and producer Hannah Wants, from Birmingham, UK, will be performing on the Sunday of Digital Dreams. She has been touring the U.S and has done several festivals over the last couple years. She is most recently coming off performing at Las Vegas’ EDC festival. Check out her track ‘Just’ featuring Kristine W to get you in the mood for her Digital set.
4. Chus & Ceballos
In my opinion, arguably one of the most underrated pair of DJs and producers in the business. Originally from Spain, Chus & Ceballos have been all over the world producing and performing so many hits since the year 2000. Known mostly for their production, this duo is responsible for official remixes of huge artists such as Madonna and JLo. They also founded a Spanish electronic music label named Stero Productions and began an underground music movement in Spain called Iberican. Adding Digital Dreams to their extensive list of festivals and shows around the world, hus & Ceballos will be performing on the first day of the festival.
5. Infected Mushroom
Infected Mushroom is one of the few acts that will be playing a live set at Digital Dreams and will hit the stage on the second day of the two-day festival. Originally from Israel, Erez Eisen and Amit Duvdevani are a pair of DJs that perform and produce unique and rare sounds ranging from electronica, psytrance and psychedelic music. Their latest album, Converting Vegetarians II, will be a follow up to their 2003 album of the same name.
Digital Dreams is almost here – it is happening in Downtown Toronto on the Saturday and Sunday of Canada Day weekend, July 2nd and 3rd. Passes are still available and the full lineup can be seen here.
